Now that you have successfully been engaged to your fiancé, the next milestone is the wedding. This big day is where you will exchange vows to show endless love and commitment towards a lifetime of marriage. Your wedding ring is as important as your marriage, and choosing the right one would be wise. Here are some considerations:
1.What is the preference of your partner?
It is best to also ask the preference of your partner in terms of selecting the right wedding ring. Does she want a simple design, or a wedding ring with gemstones? Or does she want a wedding ring to be uniquely designed by a jewellery designer? These are some questions that should be discussed between the both of you.
2.Price
Your budget would determine the price at which you are willing to purchase wedding rings for your partner and yourself. A simple wedding ring with just 14k gold without any gemstones can be as low as SGD500/RM1700.
An 18k gold wedding ring with no gemstones can be as low as SGD700/RM2400.
If you choose wedding rings with diamonds or other gemstones, or if it is a mix between two gold colours (e.g. rose & white gold), then the price of the wedding ring would increase.
3.Design
Most jewellery shops would already carry pre-determined wedding ring designs. But if you or your partner would prefer a jewellery designer to create special wedding rings, it is always best to show an example, if available, of a similar design that you are thinking about. This would be easier to match your preferences, in addition to describing using words. Remember, pictures speak a thousand words.
In addition, do state your budget upfront, so the jewellery designer can draw designs based on your budget, so you do not have to overrun your budget.
Lastly, do agree on a timeline for the delivery of your wedding rings. On average, give a lead time of about 1 month for the designer to design and craft your wedding ring. If you request for designs that need additional sourcing of materials like rare gemstones, then the lead time would increase beyond 1 month.
4.Comfort
Whether you purchase your wedding rings at a jewellery store or jewellery designer, please try on the ring to ensure that it fits. As straightforward as it seems, it is very important as you will be wearing the wedding ring on a daily basis at home, and at work. The wedding ring has to fit nicely, such that it is neither too tight nor too loose.
If you buy a slightly larger ring, so you can still downsize if it is too large. But if you buy a wedding ring that is too small, it will be harder to enlarge the ring size.
